How to Spot Fake Reviews in Pakistan — A Consumer's Guide
Fake reviews are everywhere. Here's how to tell real reviews from fake ones before you spend your money.
Every Pakistani consumer has been burned at least once — bought something because of glowing reviews, only to be disappointed. Fake reviews are a real problem, and they're getting more sophisticated. Here's your guide to spotting them.
1. Look at the Pattern of Reviews
A business that receives 50 five-star reviews in one week and then nothing for months is a red flag. Real businesses receive reviews steadily over time. A sudden spike usually means the business bought reviews in bulk.
2. Read the Language Carefully
Fake reviews tend to be vague and overly positive. Phrases like "excellent service", "highly recommend" and "great experience" without any specific detail are common in fake reviews. Real customers mention specific products, staff names, wait times or particular experiences.
3. Check the Reviewer's Profile
On platforms that show reviewer profiles, check how many reviews they've written. An account with only one review — and it's a 5-star for the business in question — is suspicious. Real reviewers have a history.
4. Watch for Review Clustering
If many reviews use similar phrasing or were posted within hours of each other, they were likely written by the same person or generated by AI. Look for diversity in writing style and timing.
5. Trust Platforms with Moderation
SuchScore uses AI moderation on every review before it's published. Reviews that appear fake, promotional, abusive or irrelevant are flagged for manual review. This is why an independent review platform matters — Google Reviews have no such filter.
